We request that you only hand a sample of urine into the practice if requested by doctor, nurse or as part of your annual review. If a sample has been request please ensure it is handed in before 3pm.

Please follow the steps below to ensure the sample is not contaminated by cells or bacteria from your skin or the lining of your urinary tract:

    • wash your hands

    • wash the genital area- this is to avoid contamination as above

    • start to urinate but allow the first part of urine that comes out to pass into the toilet

    • collect the middle part of the stream into sample container provided by the practice

    • DO NOT pass urine into another container and transfer into the container provided by practice- this can introduce bacteria, or kill bacteria in the urine

    • ensure container shut tightly and wash hands thoroughly
